Caneschi The aim of the school is to provide the students with an overview of current methodologies and approaches to design functional inorganic materials with an emphasis on energy storage and conversion and environmental applications. The school covers the basic principles of advanced synthetic and characterization methods together with an overview of theoretical and computational methodologies for the interpretation of experimental data and the prediction of new materials properties. A specific section of the School is dedicated to machine learning approaches for materials discovery and design. A special focus will be given to the industrial perspective on advanced inorganic materials with an entire session devoted to industrial research and development. |

Manfrida Thermo-ecological cost (TEC) is the approach, proposed originally by Prof. Jan Szargut at Silesian University of Technology (Gliwice, Poland), to evaluate the sustainability of energy conversion and utilization processes thorugh a sound engineering thermodynamics approach. TEC extends the potential of exergy, LCA and exergo-environmental examining also the problem of scarcity of natural resources and identifying the correct path to sustainable development. Campatelli Sustainable manufacturing, which involves engineering and management of processes and material flows, is the key lever for economic growth of industries. A novel green and lean paradigm have encompassed both lean manufacturing, aiming at reducing wastes for higher efficiency, and green manufacturing, aiming at reducing environmental impact. Despite the redesign of product and systems of new generation, improving planning and control operation management is a key challenge for all industries. Indeed, the planning and control of production systems can be enhanced with energy management and might improve both green and brownfield scenarios in terms of sustainability. Planning strategies and control models react to production flow fluctuations in the medium-short time horizon and should integrate the variability of energy distribution network so that the efficient use of production equipment is pursued. Industrial energy management should exploit process flexibility to a better use of energy sources, including renewable and distributed generation. This seminar aims at providing an overview of the production planning and control problems that consider both traditional production performance and sustainability related indicators. A literature analysis of recent contributions will be discussed. A special focus will be dedicated to production control policies for switching off and on the energy intensive equipment when their operation is not needed. An outlook for future research perspectives will conclude the seminar. |
