Design and development of Industrial Products and Processes

Intro

Our professors and researchers have strong connections to industry and propose cutting-edge research topics and welcome excellent candidates from around the world. The mentoring process is very thorough and includes a semi-annual review by the board of the progress of the individual candidate's work. The board provides suggestions and support that complements that of the supervisor.

Objective

The general objective is the third (graduate) level education of researchers and experts in the various areas of the industrial engineering with special focus on Design and Development of Industrial Products and Processes.

Applications include the building processes, the wider computational mechanics, digital 3D modeling, design thinking methods, transport industry, and biomedical engineering.

 Specific fields

  • Study and characterization of mechanical properties of various kinds of materials, including reinforced plastics.
  • Methods and techniques in the process and product analysis for the design and production of components mechanical systems.
  • Monitoring of mechanical components and structures for the damage identification, mapping, quantification and control.
  • Kinematic and dynamic modeling of vehicle components.
  • Automotive and motorcycle engineering with a special focus on vehicle dynamics, Vehicle electrification.
  • DAS and Autonomous Drive: method to support development, testing and validation of safe automated driving technologies.
  • Hardware In the Loop method (HiL): method to reproduce a wide range of operating conditions, integrating a single component into a complex system, eventually considering the “Human in the Loop” approach.
  • Life cycle sustainability assessment
  • Smart materials for biomedical and bioinspired mechatronic systems
  • Additive Manufacturing, Design for Additive Manufacturing and applications
  • Reverse Engineering and Reverse Modeling
  • Advanced Computer Aided Design
  • Design thinking methods and tools for creativity in Engineering Design.
