PhD Cycles Details: Foreign Period - Period in the Company
I would like to inform you that from the XXXVIII cycle the period of stay abroad is mandatory.
(PhD regulations article 19 paragraph 4)
To obtain the 50 per cent increase in the grant for periods abroad, you must complete the Foreign Stay Authorisation form and, at the end of each month, the Foreign Stay Confirmation form (also for conferences and conventions abroad). For further information, visit the specific page.

PhD students have to spend at least 3 months (92 days), preferably 6 months (183 days), carrying out research and training activities, consistent with their PhD project, at highly qualified institutions abroad.
Minimum requirement of 92 days must be strictly met. This means that a minimum of 92 days abroad have to be officially recorded by filling the period abroad authorization form (that also comprises the request of 50% grant increase).
At the end of each month spent abroad (within the first 4 days of the following month) an additional form needs to be filled (confirmation of stay abroad) stating exactly the days spent abroad (any days spent back in Italy must be declared).
Possible participation in conferences/courses abroad may contribute to the achievement of the 92 (183) days assuming the student fills the period abroad authorization form and the subsequent confirmation of stay abroad form (not only asking for travel authorization and travel reimbursement).
Faber doctoral students are excluded from the foreign obligation.
